Promoting diversity and careers in engineering

Seymour Whyte has enhanced its commitment to gender diversity by signing on for a three-year partnership with Power of Engineering.

Power of Engineering is a not-for-profit organisation whose vision is “to inspire young people to consider a diverse and creative career in the profession of engineering, with a particular focus on females, regional and Indigenous students.”

Seymour Whyte CEO and Managing Director Mr John Kirkwood said the partnership with Power of Engineering complemented Seymour Whyte’s Diversity Policy statement where the importance of diversity is recognised.

“This partnership aligns with one of our gender diversity targets to increase female engineer representation. We see diversity as a fundamental element of business success, to remain competitive today and into the future,” he said.

“This partnership demonstrates our commitment to advance the interests not only of women in engineering, but the industry as a whole.”

While Seymour Whyte employees have successfully participated in and led a number of Power of Engineering events over the past 15 months, the official partnership kicked off with an engineering workshop at Lithgow State High School and visit to our Great Western Highway Hartley Valley to Forty Bends upgrade project site.

A total of 87 female students from local high schools and volunteer engineering students from University of NSW and Charles Sturt University had the opportunity to experience engineering and construction up close.
