Sunshine Motorway Duplication - Maroochydore Road to Pacific Paradise

Location: Sunshine Coast, Queensland

Valued at $58.4m, this was a construction project for Queensland Department of Main Roads.

The duplication involved the upgrading of 4.45 kilometres of existing motorway from two lanes to four lanes between Pacific Paradise and the Maroochydore Road Interchange. The scope of works included:

  • Upgrade existing motorway from 2 lanes to 4 lanes
  • Construction of a new southbound carriageway
  • Changing the existing interchange from a two lane roundabout to four fully signalised intersections
  • Two overpasses for the new motorway carriageway, construction of entry and exit ramps
  • Innovative retaining walls, noise barriers, extensive culvert works and major landscaping requirements
  • Interfacing with adjacent contractors to ensure smooth, safe and timely transition between contract packages
  • Environmental constraints: Drainage structures within low lying estuarine and cane field environments
  • Associated works included: earthworks, pavements, extensive drainage works including 35 cell culvert structures, retaining walls, noise barriers, landscaping works
