$11.7M upgrade and duplication of the Gold Coast Highway from Robert Street to Broad Street. The upgrade involved the duplication of the Highway from one to two lanes with a centre divided median.
Project works included:
- Major drainage upgrade, whilst still maintaining existing system
- Large drainage chambers to construct at up to 2.2m depth in sandy environment
- New traffic signals
- Revised pavement design
Some of the biggest challenges to be faced during the construction of this project included:
- Traffic staging
- High Traffic volumes
- Large volume of pedestrian movements
- Maintaining access to local residence and businesses at all times
- The high water table
- Working around existing known and unknown services.
