Wallarah Peninsula - Pacific Highway Interchange, Swansea

Location: Wallarah, NSW

The Wallarah Peninsula was an $11million design and construct contract, with a formal partnering and share of savings mechanism. The project involved the construction of a major interchange at Swansea, including bulk earthworks (with substantial volumes of extremely hard rock), roadworks, bridgeworks under highway traffic, drainage works, pavements, lighting and other associated works.

This project included a significant urban design element as the project, once completed, formed the gateway to a new residential development.

Staging of the works and traffic management of the highway were a major consideration in hauling approximately 60,000m³fill from one side to the other. This was accomplished with minimal disruption to the travelling public. Traffic was diverted around the bridge site to enable excavation and construction of the bridge. Stakeholder and environmental management were key requirements.
