A small but dedicated, multi-disciplinary HR team who play an integral role in a Queensland-based civil construction success story have been awarded the Career One Queensland Human Resources Excellence Award for 2009. Recognition of Seymour Whyte’s approach to human resources management in an industry that has endured immense competition for skilled workers and construction contracts during the boom of the last 3 to 4 years, is an achievement they are really proud of, says Seymour Whyte’s HR Manager Todd Stubbings. This is evidenced by the fact the company continues to grow at a rate greater than 20% per annum, despite the current economic climate. To support a growing business that has 75% of its 165 workers dispersed across construction sites throughout Queensland and New South Wales, the HR team’s priority is to deliver on contemporary and relevant attraction, development and retention strategies which are directly aligned with the company’s business strategy. “Achieving good HR outcomes is so much easier when you have a great culture based on high levels of staff engagement and staff confidence in the way in which the business is managed and where it is heading, and HR initiatives are well supported by management throughout the organisation.”
