Engineers without Borders Australia

SWC working with Engineers Without Borders Australia
As a national Silver Partner, Seymour Whyte is supporting Engineers Without Borders Australia (EWB), an Australian, non-profit organisation that works with disadvantaged communities to improve their quality of life through education and the implementation of sustainable engineering projects. Here are some ways you can get involved.

Working with Communities
EWB works with communities and local organisations in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.  EWB volunteers support communities to help build their technical skills through in-country placements and technical assistance networks.  Overseas placements typically last 6-12 months. However, you can get involved with a local initiative project in your community and contribute a small amount of time each week (EWB covers volunteer costs for travel, accommodation and a living allowance). http://www.ewb.org.au/volunteer/

EWB Development Education and Leadership Program - May 2009
In 2009 EWB will run an intensive four week learning and engagement program in India.  Particpants visit a range of community-based projects and participate in workshops and local meetings.  This program is an opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills in community development practice.  You will also enhance your capacities in creative problem-solving, communication, adaptability, enhanced inter-personal and team-building abilities and improved leadership capacity in a unique environment.  http://www.ewb.org.au/education/

Get Involved with Your Local EWB Chapter
Chapters are a great way to become involved with EWB at a grass roots level. They offer a framework for members to work in their local area and they offer a good way to meet people with similar values.   You can email the Queensland chapter president at qld@ewb.org.au  Chapters run local projects, member education initiatives and social activities.  For more information go to www.ewb.org.au/chapter/

Form an EWB Interest Group in Your Office or Site Office
EWB interest groups are established by employees within EWB’s partner organisations to explore new opportunities for staff to participate in local EWB activities.  Are you interested in joining up with other Seymour Whyte employees with an interest in EWB?

For more information on these opportunities please contact Lizzie Brown – Director of Education, Training and Research at l.brown@ewb.org.au or 07 3365 7038, ring the Marketing and Communications Coordinator at Seymour Whyte on telephone 07 3340 4800 or access the Engineers Without Borders website at http://www.ewb.org.au/
